Within easy reach, you'll find San Michele Arcangelo church, baroque temple known for its beautiful majolica floor mosaic of the Neapolitan master Leonardo Chiaiese, representing Adam and Eve as they are expelled from the Garden of Eden.
A few steps from the church of San Michele, in via Giuseppe Orlandi, stands one of the most particular museums of the island, the so-called Casa Rossa.
Continuing towards Piazza Vittoria and climbing up an easy stairway, you can reach the path that leads to the Museum of Villa San Michele and to the panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Gulf of Naples.
The museum is the beautiful residence that the Swedish physician and intellectual Axel Munthe wanted to build on the island of Capri. The villa and its idyllic terraced garden open onto a dreamlike panorama of the Gulf of Naples and hosts the rich collection of archaeological finds and art objects collected by the doctor.
From the central square (Piazza Vittoria) you can take the chairlift to Monte Solaro, a single seating system that in 12 minutes of panoramic climb, will take you to the highest and most panoramic point of the island. From Monte Solaro you can enjoy a 360-degree view of Capri, Naples and its entire gulf, but also walk along paths submerged in the Mediterranean scrub, like the path that leads to the remote hermitage of Santa Maria a Cetrella.
(There is also a trek from the top to the Piazzetta di Capri). The visit is absolutely recommended, unless you suffer from dizziness! In that case, however, consider climbing on foot.
Also in Anacapri you can find the ruins of Villa Damecuta, one of the twelve Roman villas that the emperor Tiberius had built on the island, currently there are few ruins, surrounded by a fragrant pine forest.
A few meters from the villa, on the road there is the bus stop that leads to the Grotta Azzurra or "Gradola" (beach resort and free beaches).
Not everyone knows this, but one of the most famous attractions on the island of Capri is located in Anacapri, the suggestive Grotta Azzurra, so called for its reflections of infinite shades of blue and turquoise.
Visits take place aboard small rowboats.
Anacapri is also the ideal starting point for those who love trekking. You will find walks and paths of different lengths and of all levels of difficulty. Besides the Belvedere of Migliera and Centrella hermitage, we recommend the path of the Fortini, which starts near the lighthouse of Punta Carena and ends near the pine forest of Damecuta: a spectacular path surrounded by the Mediterranean scrub, with unforgettable views of the waters of Capri. The most trained can also walk the Scala Fenicia, which leads to Marina Grande.
Finally you can find the lighthouse of Punta Carena, with always clean water and sun throughout the day: this is why the lighthouse is one of the most popular seaside resorts on the island. There are several bathing facilities, arranged on comfortable terraces, with iron stairs to dive into the sea. It is a fashionable place, ideal to enjoy a day at the beach and a delicious caponata on the terraces of snack bars, but also to dine by candlelight on the sea, because some bars and restaurants are open even in summer evenings.
The lighthouse is a unique location for its unforgettable sunsets.
